JAYSON W. THOMAS, B.A., LL.B., J.D. (magna cum laude)

Mr. Thomas is counsel to Levine Associates, and assists our clients in litigating matters before the Federal Court of Canada.  Mr. Thomas has represented clients in applications for judicial review of negative decisions of the Immigration and Refugee Board, negative decisions of immigration officers, and in emergency stay of removal (deportation) applications.

Mr. Thomas has significant experience representing individuals and businesses in shareholder and partnership disputes, contractual disputes, employment matters, real property litigation (including commercial leasing), and negligence claims.  He has acted successfully for clients as lead trial counsel before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and as lead appellate counsel on applications for judicial review and appeals before the Ontario Divisional Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court of Canada.

Additionally, he has extensive experience in advancing applications and motions for injunctions.  Many of the cases Mr. Thomas has argued have been reported.

Mr. Thomas devotes a significant amount of his time to pro bono litigation.  In this regard, he recently represented an individual successfully in response to a judicial review application advanced by one of Canada’s largest law firms on behalf of the Chief of Police and the Toronto Police Services Board in a high profile, precedent setting human rights case.  Mr. Thomas is also on the roster list for the Pro Bono Law Association of Ontario’s Court of Appeal duty counsel panel.

Mr. Thomas graduated with a B.A. in Economics from York University, and attended law school at the University of Windsor and the University of Detroit Mercy.  Mr. Thomas was previously a litigation associate at Fraser Milner Casgrain, one of Canada’s oldest and largest law firms, where he represented large, public and privately held companies.
