After graduating with a B.A. in Philosophy from York University, Mr. Levine attended Queen’s Law School where he developed an early interest in administrative law and participated in the criminal law program involving representation of prisoners in appeals both within the prison system and appeal courts. Mr. Levine graduated with an LL.B in 1986 and articled at the firm of Porter and Posluns under the tutelage of the great litigator Julian Porter, where he gained further experience in the area of administrative law. Mr. Levine was called to the Bar in 1988.
Mr. Levine began practicing as a sole practitioner in 1990 and established Levine Associates in 1993 when he began an association with Ms. Coulthard, who continues to work with Mr. Levine in the areas of Immigration, Refugee and Family Law. In 1996 Ms. Girgis joined the firm practising exclusively in the area of family law and continues as one of the founding members of the firm.
Mr. Levine has been attending before the Immigration and Refugee Board for over 30 years and has represented thousands of refugee claimants during that time. In addition to attendances at the Board, Mr. Levine regularly prepares appeals to the Refugee Appeal Division and attends before the Federal Court Trial Division where he argues Judicial Review cases of negative Board and Immigration decisions as well as other immigration matters.
In addition to the practice of law, Mr. Levine taught Immigration and Refugee Law in the Law Department of Carleton University from 2000 until 2011. Mr. Levine is presently an adjunct professor at the University of Western Ontario Law School where he teaches Immigration and Refugee Law on a bi-annual basis along with Robin Seligman.
Mr. Levine lives in the city of Toronto with his family. In his spare time, Mr. Levine enjoys time with his family, coaching and playing hockey, squash, tennis, skiing and skating. His favourite hobby is photography.
